Montana Sweet Grass Beef buys 6-10 month old calves in the fall from neighbors known to us as cow/calf producers who meet our supply requirements. We have "neighbored" together throughout the years and are familiar with what each other is working to accomplish and how the cattle are raised. After weaning, the calves are wintered in open pastures along the Yellowstone Valley floor and summered on a tributary of Sweet Grass Creek. From birth, the diet is mother's milk, grass and free choice minerals. No grain, no hormones, no antibiotics and no pesticides are used on these animals. The cattle are free to select a variety of native and tame grasses which nature will vary in abundance in any given year. Harvest is seasonal and is generally available, as halves or wholes, in the July/August period. Packaging is customized to the customer's wishes. Our preference is to keep our business trade local within approximately a 100-mile radius of Big Timber, Montana.
