About this farm

At Rainbow Homestead we practice sustainable and humane animal husbandry. Beyond Organic, our holistic approach means farming within Nature's patterns, with Nature's Rhythms. A place where wildlife flourish alongside rare breeds of livestock, where heirloom gardens and orchards nourish us even as hedgerows, woodlands, and prairies provide haven for all manner of life. Our herbal meadows provide the ideal diet for our livestock while providing nesting sites, beneficial habitat, and sweet nectar for our honeybees. Intentionally "human scale," we choose to homestead and husband our land in a way that promotes harmony and synergy. Our organic, rotationally grazed pastures burst with an edible riot of colors and flavors: sunny dandelions, sky blue chicory, lacy yarrow, sweet scented clovers, and tangy sorrel among the green grasses. Cold-hardy forages like turnips and canola extend the forage feast into winter. Humane treatment is important to us: our lambs keep their beautiful long tails they're born with! Our lamb and beef are raised using 100 percent forages—NO GRAIN EVER! Our pastured poultry and pork are raised on high quality pasture in addition to certified organic grain. 100% GRASS FED LAMB and BEEF, PASTURED PORK and POULTRY available. Customers may purchase at the farm, at the Madison farmers market or mail-order from November to March. Local Natural Foods stores also carry our meats.
