Rosebud Beef Ranch

About this farm

Rosebud Beef Ranch, a small family-owned ranch in south central South Dakota, can provide you with tender, healthily grass-fed beef in split half's, half's, and wholes. Our local locker, which meets state and federal regulations, can process and ship your meat to most places in the US. We are considering providing individual cuts of meat should sufficient interest develop. Our management program starts by selecting cattle that are genetically capable of producing tender, tasty beef on grass. We use Lowline bulls (www.usa-lowline.org) on selected Angus/cross cows as the basis of our program. Lowline cattle, developed in Australia and served in some of their finest restaurants, are genetically tender due to their smaller size and shorter muscle fibers. Our Lowline/cross cattle are 20–30% smaller than our Angus cows, which means smaller meat cuts and a lower initial cost for you when purchasing a half or whole beef. All of our grass-fed animals are raised strictly on our native and tame grass pastures and because of our SD winters, they are supplemented with our green alfalfa hay. Our understanding is that green grass and/or green hay are essential to producing the highest amounts of omega 3 and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in the grass-fed meat. Our land is devoted to producing feed for our beef cattle. We became convinced of the health benefits of grass-fed beef in 2001, which is when we started our grass-fed program. Because of our tenderness and other criteria, the number of grass-fed animals we offer for sale are few but will increase over time.
